Šumava, Kváskovice u Drážova

The village Kváskovice u Drážova is located in the beautiful rugged foothill landscape in the Šumava region, still essentially unaffected by modern day influences. The village is situated on the southern slope of gradual range which converges to the east of the wooded hill Kůstrý (836.8 m above sea level)

The cottage looks down on the first Šumava hills from the southern sunny hillside. Its location at 700 metres above seal level  is a challenge for all cyclists and in winter for cross country skiers.

The nearest civilization (shops, restaurants) is 8 km away in the village Vacov. Even 50 years ago children from Kváskovice went this distance every day on foot. Pubs can be found, however, also in the nearby Hoslovice or Zálesí. Summer swimming is 9 km away in the village Rohanov.The distance from the nearest winter ski resort Javorník is 10 km, skiing in Zadov is approximately 8 km farther.

Reconstruction

Cottage No. 25 is a listed building. We purchased it from the last heiress of the family who owned it over 100 years. Even due to this fact the cottage maintained the high degree of authenticity. We are slowly getting used to the fact that when we browse through literature dealing with the rural vernacular architecture, we find the already known photograph of our cottage. It is referred to as one of the most important monuments in the whole region. 

With the help of financial contributions from the Ministry of Culture and the South Bohemian Region we are able to continue to treat the cottage with a view to ensuring that it will be pleasing to the eye and for future generations. The planned reconstruction will be finished at the end of 2012 and we hope that we will be able to invite you in 2013 for summer holiday right here.
